The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia invites applications for a Public Service Faculty position in the Governmental Training, Education, and Development Division. The person in this position will serve as a Financial Management Associate and Program Manager. The position will be available February 1, 2010, and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University. The successful candidate will have major responsibility for teaching governmental finance, budgeting and accounting courses to state and local government officials in Georgia. Additional responsibilities include managing the financial management training program, building and maintaining relationships with a myriad of local and state government organizations, and supervising and training other financial management training faculty and staff. The person in this position will play a major leadership role in the Institute and will set the course for financial management programs in conjunction with the Associate Director. Some overnight travel is required.

A master's degree in accounting, public administration, business administration or related field is strongly preferred, but a professional designation (C.P.A.) may qualify the applicant. A working knowledge of governmental generally accepted accounting principles and their application is required. The successful candidate must have significant, progressively responsible experience in or with state and/or local government finance.

As the position will spend considerable time working directly with state and local officials, both elected, appointed, and staff, it is critical that the candidate possess the desire, ability, and experience to interact in a very positive and supportive manner with these important customers of the Institute. Strong communications and interpersonal skills are required as well as an appreciation for the complexities involved in working in a public political setting.

Compensation will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
