cviog.uga.eduMr. Hourihan provides management, organizational development, leadership, and special topic training for elected officials, managers, supervisors, and staff in state and local government throughout Georgia. He conducts training sessions for municipal, county and state government associations. In addition, he facilitates meetings and retreats for both staff and elected government officials.
Prior to joining the Institute, Mr. Hourihan spent more than 25 years in various management roles in the public and private sector, and has served as a business coach at the managerial level.
Mr. Hourihan is certified to conduct training for the POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) association and the Ga. Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC), has a CDL Instructor license (with all endorsements) from the State of Georgia and holds a PHR designation from the Society for Human Resource Management.
Fields of interest: operations management and leadership development, strategic planning, project management, team building and group dynamics, interactive communication, coaching, conflict management, positive discipline, business/personal ethics and interview/selection techniques.
Some of his skills include curriculum development, motivational techniques, goal setting and performance evaluation for individuals and groups/departments, public speaking and group facilitation, effective change management, and incentive and recognition systems.
